Angiogram/Cardiac Catheterization
Results
Depending on what your or your child's angiogram shows, the doctor may do the following:
- If the patient's angiogram shows serious blockages in any of the arteries, the doctor may immediately perform a procedure, such as a balloon angioplasty and stenting, to open the blockage and restore blood flow to your heart.
-
The doctor may refer the patient for coronary bypass surgery, a surgical method for restoring blood flow.
-
If the patient's angiogram shows plaque buildup that doesn’t require immediate attention, the doctor will review the pictures and study the patient's condition in more detail before recommending a plan of action, which may include lifestyle changes and/or medications.
